En Primeur Wines

En Primeur is a French term used where wines are offered for sale before they are bottled. The price of En Primeur Wines will almost always be cheaper than the future price of the wine when it comes on the market. Frequently it is the only method of securing a particular wine, especially when only a limited quantity is made.

En Primeur Wines can only be purchased in a case. They are initially purchased free of duty, delivery and VAT. The duty and VAT can be deferred further if the wine, when it arrives in the UK, is stored “in bond” at a registered bonded warehouse. Once the wine is ready to be delivered out of the warehouse a second payment is due to cover the duty, VAT and handling costs.
